The Unexpected

Daily Gratitude Year 7 - Day 68: Today, I am grateful for the unexpected.

Samuel was sent by God to anoint the son of Jesse who would be king. Jesse called his sons to stand before the prophet, but none were selected. They were strong, fine young men, but they were not chosen for the throne.

Instead, God chose the youngest son, David. He was a boy who spent his days shepherding, unlike his brothers who were serving in Saul's army. His Dad did not even think to call him when Samuel arrived. It seemed unthinkable that the boy could be "the one".

How many times do we miss what God is doing, simply because we are not looking for Him in unexpected places?

But the Lord said to Samuel, “Don’t judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. The Lord doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” -1 Samuel 16:7

His vision is different than ours. He sees it all clearly. We can trust his hand and his plan... but it might look different than we expected.

Today, I am grateful for the unexpected.
