This little bird image evokes a sense of frustration and sadness. You can feel the frustration as he attempts to fly, but the thread keeps him from successfully taking to the air. Poor little guy!
This verse is illuminated through the art. (Image credit unknown.)The truth is, we easily attach ourselves to things that are not important in the big picture of life. The things that don't really matter become unnecessary burdens. They don't help us love God better... or love others more.
The "Stuff-Mart" is an old Veggie Tales reference from my children's youth. Those who love the world find themselves belonging to it. They are never satisfied for more than a minute.
"Those who use the things of the world should not become attached to them. For this world as we know it will soon pass away." -1 Corinthians 7:31
The Stuff-mart... and even Amazon... will never have the answers that satisfy our souls. Only Jesus can give us that kind of peace. In Christ, our everyday wardrobe changes.
"Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience." -Colossians 3:12
Tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience are the answer to "What to wear?". We can use the things in our blessings basket, but we are not to love them. There is no peace in chasing after stuff.
Today, I am grateful we can choose to be unattached.
