Saturday's Silence

Year 9- Day 92: Today, I am grateful for Saturday's silence.

"Holy Saturday. The best reminder that the silence of God doesn't equal the absence of God."  -Tullian Tchividjian

What an amazing way of rephrasing what I have known for a long time... God's apparent silence means he is working out all things. The tiniest details. The craziest "coincidences". His timetable makes no sense to us at times, but He is... indeed... good. He cares about our trials. He never promised to make them all go away, but he promised that he would never leave us.

Do you hear the sound of silence? Do you hear the echo of hope into eternity? Can you sense that the stone is about to roll away? Can you fathom that one beautiful, flawless lamb could atone for all of our sins? Yesterday, today and forever... He is the lamb. Blameless, pure and true. This is the act that changed everything... and the victory was being won while His people wept and the earth seemed to be silent.

Jesus told them if they failed to praise his name the stones would cry out.

"He replied, “If they kept quiet, the stones along the road would burst into cheers!”"- Luke 19:40

So much truth in that statement. We can't hide the power or the glory of our risen Lord. For generations, hearts full of evil have tried to wipe away the truth of His resurrection. On Saturday, he was still working things out in what appeared to be silence. He was crushing Satan's head and gaining the victory over death, so we can live fearless and free. This year, especially, the words fearless and free are even sweeter.

How did he do it?

"He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins" -Ephesians 1:7

He purchased or freedom on Friday... and spent Saturday in silence. Still, the silence was not without purpose. Death was going down for the count. Could someone count backwards from three. THREE... TWO...

Today, I am grateful for Saturday's silence.
