Chocolate and peanut butter... Sriracha and mayo... lemon and broccoli … salty and sweet... these are some great combinations. In cuisine, great chefs have found success in taking new risks when combining flavors and textures.
One of our newer favorites is a peanut butter burger. Who knew it could be so good? Slap a little bacon on there and you raise it up to another level. Some things don't seem to go together, but then you realize they work.
When you realize the crazy, boundless love of God makes no sense, the seeds of faith can begin to grow.
Look at this scripture:
"Mercy and truth have met together; Righteousness and peace have kissed." -Psalm 85:10
These things seem to be somewhat incompatible. Righteousness demands justice be served. God's holy nature cannot tolerate sin. Then, Jesus willingly went to the cross to wipe out our sin debt. He died so we could live. He conquered death so we could live fearlessly; reducing death to a door, not a destination. He provided the winning combination.
We didn't earn it. He gave it. We couldn't do any of it on our own. Our creative ways of reconciliation fell short every time. He became the perfect mix of mercy and truth. Just like the Chicago Mix of popcorn (cheddar cheese and caramel corn)... Jesus became the winning combination. Righteousness and peace have kissed.
Today, I am grateful for winning combinations.
