Daily Gratitude Year 7-Day 258: Today, I am grateful for marching bands.

Yesterday, we watch the marching bands and it always fills my heart with joy. It was a thrill to hear the MJHS marching band in their very first parade. It is a "Jr High miracle" every year that Katrina Fitzpatrick and her team pulls off in just a few weeks of school. The 7th graders are new to marching and relatively new to playing their instruments. They have grown so much since their recorder days (God bless the elementary school music teachers for sparking their interest in reading music and playing instruments.)

Honestly... with their bodies growing and changing at rapid rates... that they get through an ordinary school day without tripping and falling is at times extraordinary.

During the parade, we heard them play "Allstar" by Smashmouth. It was great! "All that glitters is gold..." was stuck in my head for hours. My heart was full. They are full of spirit and heart, and a great deal of talent.

Then... the MHS marching band came through looking like professionals. One of the drum majors stopped to make my day extra special. I am in awe of the amazing polish they have in their first few weeks of school. (They do start in the last week of summer and we get to hear them practice some evenings). They did not disappoint. I am posting a ton of pictures just in case I captured a child someone missed. (Sorry Wendy... I didn't see Thomas) They looked sharp!

Psalm 150 is a musicians Psalm. We hear it all yesterday. Pipes, horns, drums and cymbals playing together creating something more than any one voice could create alone. We are better together!

Praise the LORD.Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens.  Praise him for his acts of power; praise him for his surpassing greatness. Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet, praise him with the harp and lyre, praise him with timbrel and dancing, praise him with the strings and pipe,  praise him with the clash of cymbals, praise him with resounding cymbals. -Psalm 150:1-5

We can sing and play solos ... but somehow... we are better together.

Today, I am grateful for marching bands.
