“Be still, and know that I am God.”
-Psalm 46:10
It is a favorite scripture for many. The original Hebrew word is “raphah”. It can mean “be still” or “be quiet”, but it can also mean “cease” or “let go”. Yes, “let it go” is found in the scriptures.
Imagine God saying, "Drop it!" or "Let it go!" Does it seem out of character? On the contrary, it is perfect. He wants us to cease our worries, to drop our troubles and trust him. Jesus reiterates this in the gospels.
“That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? -Matthew 6:25-27
I am grateful for new eyes on this old favorite scripture.God says what he means and means what he says. We can let go... leave it and find a new sense of freedom in Him.
Today, I am grateful for the peace found in letting go.
