Established Roots.

Year 9- Day 9: Today, I am grateful for established roots.

An ice storm... followed by  a week of snow flocked trees … beautiful, yes, but it has done some damage. When the winter thaws, it is likely there will be some trees that did not survive the combination of ice and snow that lasted for 7 days.

The sound of tree branches cracking and hitting the roof has become familiar. Some cars have been damaged, as well, under falling limbs. When the snow and ice melts and winter goes away, will the trees come back to life in the spring?

Often, the answer lies in whether or not the tree is rooted and established in good soil. A soil that has fed the tree with strength and virility, enough to survive the abuse of a winter storm, will help that tree spring forth with new life when winter melts into the season of rebirth.

We, too, will face seasons that feel like winter. Storms will come and go. We learn to bend, or we break. Roots matter. Being rooted in Christ gives us  strength and vitality to weather the storms. We can survive, because He is our life, our breath and our hope. Our roots are established.

"Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong." -Ephesians 3:17

Today, I am grateful for established roots.
