Collective Charms of Fall

Year 6-Day 295: Today, I am grateful for the collective charms of fall.

It is not one thing. It is the collective goodness of a hundred little things that invigorate us in the fall. As the leaves dance across the last mown grass of summer, something awakens inside of us. Something that was waiting for the cool, crisp days of autumn to make us feel more alive.

It isn't one thing. It is the collective charms of the season.

Breathe it in. Exhale slowly.

It is far too easy to miss the joys of October when we see winter on the horizon. We can learn to savor this day. One day at a time, wrapped in oranges, reds and golden hues until their colors are spent. We could learn much from the leaves who live out their last days in living color. Their days are splendid until they are spent.

Snuggle into the hoodie, break out the boots, light the fireplace, sip the cider and watch the show. Oh, the winter will come, but today is not that day. We need not fret the winter on the horizon. This is a day of plenty. It is a time to embrace God's goodness in full color.

"And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love." -Romans 8:38

Today, I am grateful for the collective charms of fall.
