Daily Gratitude Year 6-Day 313: Today, I am grateful for first things first.
Another Mama Ina Mae echo is in my head. "Do first things first." We grew up knowing that there were things that had to be done with urgency and immediacy. Some things that could wait. There were fun things that were optional if time and resources permitted.
I have come to understand that gratitude is a "first things first" thing. Our first breath in the morning can be a "thank you".
The news reported this morning that fast food places are hiring older employees. One of the things employers are scrambling to find is young people with soft skills like manners. "Please" and "thank you" matter when meeting, greeting and serving the public. The death of manners would be a tragedy; showing gratitude is good manners.
In this month of November, I have seen several people posting something they are grateful for today. I love it! Good manners and first things first are two easy ones.
Make thankfulness your sacrifice to God, and keep the vows you made to the Most High. -Psalm 50:14
What if God only kept his promises based on our faithfulness? Over and over throughout the Old Testament and the New, we see a God who keeps his promises, even in our unfaithful moments. His forgiveness and mercy still leave my breathless. His love is deeper than the ocean and as mysterious as the stars in the night sky.
We can make our thankfulness our sacrifice to God. We can let gratitude guide us and help us keep our vows to the Most High God. When we choose to be thankful, we take control of the thoughts that grow anxiety and fear. Our trust turns to the one who blesses us abundantly from his limitless storehouses.
Make thankfulness your sacrifice to God...
Today, I am grateful for first things first.
