Peace and Quiet

Daily Gratitude Year 6-Day 311: Today, I am grateful for peace and quiet.

When the kids were little, peace and quiet meant we'd better figure out what they were doing. Remember those days? Today, the house is much quieter but life is still very busy. I need the constant reminder to breathe and to choose intentional stillness. That is why Psalm 46:10 will always be a life verse for me.

I forget to "BE STILL". AND, I don't always act like I "KNOW" he is God or I would not worry, fret and stress. I take for granted that by his Holy Spirit, the great "I AM" is present and available to me 24/7. I forget to be peaceful and quiet, bathed in the knowledge that I am a beloved child of a living, present, magnificent, awesome GOD.

Guess what? The holidays are here. The clock is ticking and the timeline gets tight and full. The challenge to find the peace and quiet is a real struggle. This year, I hope to savor more than struggle. I need to be intentional.

Be stilland know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world.” -Psalm 46:10

It is so easy to be gifted so much by the abundance in our lives that we miss seeing God's presence in our daily lives. We forget to be in awe of who He is. We forget we can actually see the Father through the work of the Son and the Spirit.

Jesus addressed this in a conversation with Philip:
"Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father, and we will be satisfied.” Jesus replied, “Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and yet you still don’t know who I am? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father! So why are you asking me to show him to you? Don’t you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words I speak are not my own, but my Father who lives in me does his work through me." -John 14:8-10
Are there days I act like Philip? If I ask the question, do I have to answer it? He knows the truth. He knows our hearts. He loves us beyond measure and it has nothing to do with what we deserve. He loves us because we are fearfully and wonderfully made in His image, including an eternal soul. His desire to be "with us" is soon to be celebrated in another Christmas season.
Yes, life will speed up before it slows down in January. We can intentionally steep in his goodness, even in the busy. We can find some quiet moments.
Today, I am grateful for peace and quiet.
