Old Ways - New Doors

Daily Gratitude Year 6-Day 309: Today, I am grateful old ways don't open new doors.

Einstein said that the definition of insanity was doing the same thing over and over, expecting different results. He was a genius, but isn't that common sense? Obviously, common sense is a misnomer...as it is not that common.

God was in a covenant relationship with the Hebrew people, but the relationship had been severely damaged by the people. God held up his end, but sin and worldly desires took the people away from seeking Him and loving Him.

The Israelites grew to worship other things and even other people, and not the one true God. There are some things God cannot and will not tolerate.

Still, God loved. God made a new way. A new covenant that opened the doors to anyone who believed, repented, received and chose to say yes to reconciliation. Jesus... the perfect lamb... made the sacrifice that opened the door. Things would be different.

It amazes me that God never gave up on people. His heart's desire was that a created being with an eternal soul could actually forsake the world and choose to put him first in their hearts. He demands first place in our hearts. Is that really too much to ask when you are the Master and Creator of the Universe.

I am so grateful for new doors and new ways.

On the last day, the climax of the festival, Jesus stood and shouted to the crowds, “Anyone who is thirsty may come to me! Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, ‘Rivers of living water will flow from his heart.’”-John 7:37-38

We can come to the table and dine as family. Not as guests. In this month of Thanksgiving... we can celebrate being pilgrims on a journey. We can give thanks for a new covenant that was sealed in blood over 2000 years ago opening new doors.

Today, I am grateful old ways don't open new doors.
