Daily Gratitude Year 7 - Day 6: Today, I am grateful for new songs.
Music is a vital part of my life. I hear songs in my head (Thank you, Earworm...I think), even when no music is playing. Advertisement jingles are powerful tunes that weave their way into our heads and even frame how we see our world. Music is powerful.
When angels announced the birth of Christ to the shepherds in the fields, they sang. It must have been a new song. It was certainly new to the shepherds.
Sometimes, God gives us a new song to sing... a new passion and a new burning desire to serve him in a new ways. The possibilities are endless when God invites us to dance.
"Let God have you, and let God love you and don't be surprised if your heart begins to hear music you've never heard and your feet learn to dance as never before." - Max Lucado
He gives us a new song, according to the scriptures.
"He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire. He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along. He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see what he has done and be amazed. They will put their trust in the Lord. Oh, the joys of those who trust the Lord,
who have no confidence in the proud or in those who worship idols." -Psalm 40:2-4
In this fresh new year, what new things are on your heart? There is comfort in the old and familiar. How many times do we hear an old tune and breathe a deep sigh? Old songs are like old friends. The unfamiliar song can cause us to keep it at a distance, but when we open our hearts and let it in... we discover that the new song brings new life.
We were born for adventure. We can lift our voices in new harmonies. We can step out of our comfort zone into a new melody... and a new dance.
Today, I am grateful for new songs.
