Clear Roads

Daily Gratitude Year 7 - Day 14: Today, I am grateful for clear roads... and clear paths.

Winter storm Gia did her thing this weekend across the great plains. Here in the Peoria, IL area the snow is nearly a foot deep. Deeper where it has blown and gathered. Mother Nature is in the mood to cast glitter, sparkle and a white covering. I hear more is on the way next weekend.

A shout out to those who predicted the conditions so accurately and allowed us to prepare and stay out of the danger zones.

We lost an Illinois State Police officer, Christopher Lambert,  at an accident site this weekend near Chicago at an accident on I-294 near Chicago. He was responding to an accident and a motorist did not stop. He gave his life while responding to another's troubles. Lambert was US Army, so his loss will be felt amongst State troopers and the troops who served with him in the military. He placed his car to protect the motorists in the accident. It is a reminder to be cautious when we come upon recent accidents and to stay alert.

I can't imagine the grief the motorist feels, too. Even if in the wrong, it was unintentional. He did not seen him clearly with the storm conditions. His mind was on his destination.

This picture is beautiful.  A friend of a friend shared it. I love the flocked trees and the clear path. Someone did a great job clear the narrow two lane road. Thanks to all who are out in rough conditions that we might drive with clear paths.

I am reminded of this scripture.

"For the Lord sees clearly what a man does, examining every path he takes." -Proverbs 5:21

Our Lord knows our path. He sees our choices and knows our motives. He provides help and direction. He provides people to clear our way and make our way more safe and clear, if we watch, wait and listen. Sometimes, we are so anxious... we bulldoze through instead of waiting for the right path to clear. These are the times we get stuck... and scared.

There is wisdom in waiting for the clear path and there are times that someone must go into the danger zone, like Trooper Lambert did at the cost of his life.

There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.-John 15:13

It is a good day to pause for gratitude because another made a way for us to pass safely through.

Today, I am grateful for clear roads... and clear paths.
