Daily Gratitude Year 7 - Day 19: Today, I am grateful to be warm.
Baby, it's cold outside. But, today, I am warm. Any quote that mentions fire or burning is getting my attention this year. This C.S. Lewis poem, "Nearer" fit the bill:
"If you want to get warm you must stand near the fire; if you want to be wet you must get into the water. If you want joy, power, peace, eternal life, you must get close to, or even into, the thing that has them." - C.S. Lewis
To be warm, we have to get close to the heat source. Be it a fire or a heat vent, near the source is where we find the most warmth.
When looking at the spiritual connection, Lewis suggests that we not just get closer... but literally into "the thing that has" what our heart desires. Not a religion with well planned and executed rituals... but an intimate relationship with a God who deeply loves us and wants to be our best friend.
A brush with His love leaves our hearts longing for more. His warmth is beyond anything this world has to offer. His peace calms our storms. His joy springs from an eternal well.
The winter seasons come and go. In the midst of them, I am reminded of the blessing of being warm, no matter the weather outside.
Today, I am grateful to be warm.
