Daily Gratitude Year 7-Day 190: Today, I am grateful for the people who are comfortable with their own uniqueness and speak the truth in love.
I love this thought: "Scare the world: be exactly who you say you are and tell the truth."
Some would say it is a sign of getting older - but I know some really amazing young people who are comfortable with who they are and enjoy marching to their own drumbeat. I love an individual. I grew up with a few of these people and have watched other grow from children to adulthood.
We live in a society and a culture that promotes "sameness". You can look at any old photo and know the era because everyone is dressed pretty much the same. Maybe it is because I grew up on garage sale clothes, I love the new trends in recycling and upcycling. We are raising younger, greener generations. Repurposing is popular at the moment.
Still - culture promotes the disposable. It drives people to "fit" certain patterns. The goal is to sell more stuff. They use media to introduce the latest and greatest. Everyone wants to be ahead of the curve to predict the next best thing.
Why chase trends - when you can set one?
Remember John the Baptist? Fashion was not his thing.
"John’s clothes were woven from coarse camel hair, and he wore a leather belt around his waist. For food he ate locusts and wild honey." -Matthew 3:4
John the Baptist had a mission and a purpose. He didn't care who thought him odd. He had a truth to speak and a road to pave.
I am grateful for those who tell the truth. It is a cornerstone in good relationships. You always know where you stand with truthful people. :) It doesn't have to be brutal - in fact- truth that is spoken in love is often very healing.
I am grateful for those who speak the truth and for those who are true to the uniqueness God granted them, as he knit them together and placed them in their mother's womb.
Today, I am grateful for the people who are comfortable with their own uniqueness and tell the truth... in love.
