Year 8-Day 128: Today, I am grateful we can change our view.
Dietrich Bonhoeffer's story is sitting on my bookshelf with high hopes for summer reading. Bonhoeffer was articulate, intelligent and loved Christ deeply. He came up against Hitler's influence and in the face of evil, he made some difficult choices.
"We must learn to regard people less in light of what they do or omit to do, and more in the light of what they suffer." -Dietrich Bonhoeffer
Loving people is easier some times than others. Yet, we are instructed to love deeply and with a wild abandon. Jesus's love would be considered reckless by some. He was a prisoner in the war for our souls. He could save the world, or choose the easy path.
Jesus...even when hanging on the cross between to criminals in physical agony... but he never rejected the ones who called out to him for help . If they called his name with repentance and recognition... they could be saved. If they believed, they received. From discouragement and disillusionment to perfect peace, they found a new life and a second chance.
Jesus eyes always looked past what people did or did not do and saw their sorrows and suffering. Now, He had a supernatural advantage, but we were designed with eyes to see and ears to hear. We have to put those senses to work to see more like He sees.
It is something most of us have to work on. We have to take a step back and change our perspective. It takes courage, compassion and commitment. There are times we need a different point of view.
Today, I am grateful we can change our view.
