Favorite B&B's

Year 8-Day 148: Today, I am grateful my favorite B&B's.

This is not the post I started to write, but our niece posted this picture and my heart changed course.

This is a snapshot of our nephew and niece's home just outside of Traverse City in the little town of Kingsley, MI. We call it "our favorite B&B" in Michigan, complete with an adorable, sassy and silly three-year-old "mini-manager". The coffee is great and the company even better.

Kingsley is where my mother-in-law's family called home. We love summers there. There are many Morgans and Ackermans in the area. Any visit to Traverse City is a chance to see extended family. When our visits are over, we return to this adorable home to relax and recharge. That swing is amazing...and the deck chairs are perfect for conversations at the beginning or end of the day.

Now, Craig and Monica's place is only a B&B for family and friends, but Randy and I have opted to stay at registered B&B's in recent years. It is a different feel from a hotel and a bit of an adventure. Since we love looking at old homes that have been cared for or restored, B&B's are an adventure in themselves, before we take in local points of interest. B&B's come with the kind of hospitality I was taught growing up on the farm.

It takes courage to open up your heart an home to strangers, even if it is your business. It takes hospitality to be successful in that business and excellent housekeeping skills. This scripture keeps coming to mind.

"Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares." -Hebrews 13:2

Some guests are more desirable than others. Some are easy to enjoy. Others, if honest... you are ready to see leave (Oh Monica and Craig... I hope we aren't in that category). In the scriptures, we are clearly instructed to show hospitality to strangers. Not just in business, but in our own homes, too. Have we entertained angels unawares?

As the world slowly gets back to living, travel will pick up in time. If a getaway is in your future, you might consider a B&B to support small business and explore new places at the same time. The unique flavors of each B&B means there is always a story to uncover.

Monica and Craig... your yard looks wonderful. We're feeling a little "homesick".

Today, I am grateful my favorite B&B's.
