Daily Gratitude Year 9- Day 219: Today, I am grateful we can learn to rest and not quit.
"If you get tired, learn to rest...not quit."
Tenacity is a beautiful quality. We can learn about tenacity watching a toddler learning to walk or snack on Cheerios. At our house, our fur-baby, Daisy Mae, is persistent when she is attempting to catch a fly. Both keep at it until they find success. Occasionally, they take brief breaks to rest.
When we feel like we are spinning our wheels and progress is hard to see, quitting feels like a reasonable alternative. Sometimes, success is just around the corner, but we need to pause and rest before we complete the job. Humans need rest and restoration. Taking a break is not abandoning the cause. Taking a break is more than self-care, it is a chance to listen and pray before pressing on.
Rest is good for more than the body. The mind and spirit need it, too. There is a t-shirt that says, "Jesus napped." It makes me smile. It is true. He did take time to rest and reset. He reminds us that real rest is in Him.
"Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." -Matthew 11:28
Today, I am grateful we can learn to rest and not quit.
