Face to the Sun

Daily Gratitude Year 10 - Day 87 : Today, I am grateful with our face to the sun, we cannot see the shadows.

My friend, Gypsy Stockley, gets credit for this amazing photo. Isn't it special? Look how the shadow stands out. It is almost menacing. In fact, it seems to have sharp edges, almost as if it were real. But the flower does not notice. The flower has her face to the sun.

“Keep your face to the sun and you will never see the shadows.” -Helen Keller

This quote is more interesting when you realize Helen Keller was blind and deaf. She had to trust the feeling of the warmth on her face to know the sun was even shining.  She had to trust what she could not see.

I have always loved the idea of sun and son sounding the same. If you keep your face the Son, you will never see the shadows. If we look up and to His face, there is new hope and His light means the shadow brings no fear.

" to fulfill what was said through the prophet Isaiah: “Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali, the Way of the Sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles— the people living in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned.” -Matthew 4:14-17

God moved the shadow at the prophets request in Old Testament times. Then came Jesus. We have seen His light. The new light has dawned. He is the light. Keeping our faces lifted to the Son, we need not fear the shadows.

Today, I am grateful with our face to the sun, we cannot see the shadows.
