Sit With You In It

Gratitude Year 10 - Day 61: Today, I am grateful for those who "sit with us in it".

"I thought faith would say, "I'll take away the pain and discomfort", but what it ended up saying was, "I'll sit with you in it." - Brené Brown

She has the best quotes. This one struck a chord today. It is a powerful statement.

It reminded me of Adam and Eve's loss of a son at his brother's hand, Joseph's days in slavery and in prison, Moses's years in the desert, three young men in a fiery furnace, Job's trials, Leah's loneliness, David's need to hide from King Saul, Noah's ark assignment, Naomi and Ruth's sorrow, Peter's denial of Christ, the disciples and the women watching the crucifixion, the disciples knowledge that one of them would betray Jesus and Stephen's stoning. Hard times with no easy promise of a quick rescue.

Some of the heroes of the Bible listed did have some miracles delivered, but for many of them, they endured the hardships. There was some tough stuff. Faith doesn't always mean a rescue from the trial. It often means the very real knowledge... at the times we feel most broken... we can be absolutely sure we are never alone. The Holy Spirit was sent to "sit with us in it".

"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God." -1 Corinthians 1:3-4

Miraculous deliverance stories lifts our spirits! We must never forget to lift our hearts in praise in gratitude. Other times, we hold each other tight and ride the storm out wrapped in the shelter of His wings.

"Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep." -Romans 12:15

Still one of my favorite "life verses".

Today, I am grateful for those who "sit with us in it".
