Simeon

Daily Gratitude Year 10-Day 359: Today, I am grateful for Simeon.

Simeon waited a lifetime for the Lord to keep his promise that he would see the Messiah before he died. "The Spirit" led Simeon to the temple on  just the right day at just the right time. He knew who Jesus was when Joseph and Mary presented him.

Anna, a female prophet, recognized Jesus, too. That a woman would be part of the story was and is significant. Jesus would reshape so many things about what people knew as religion. He came for a relationship. Not just for the Jews, but for everyone... as Simeon points out. The gentiles would be welcomed into the family through Jesus.

So many things had to come together at just the right time. It is truly amazing. Because we have "witnessed" the wonder of it all, we can know it is true.

Anna and Simeon knew in their souls, they had seen the Messiah. The wait is over.

Simeon was there. He took the child in his arms and praised God, saying, “Sovereign Lord, now let your servant die in peace, as you have promised. I have seen your salvation, which you have prepared for all people. He is a light to reveal God to the nations, and he is the glory of your people Israel!” -Luke 2:28-32

He declares his peace. We can have the same peace.

Today, I am grateful for Simeon.
