Year 8-Day 243: Today, I am grateful for the shadow of the cross.
"In the shadow of my hurt, forgiveness feels like a decision to reward my enemy. But in the shadow of the cross, forgiveness is merely a gift from one undeserving soul to another."-Andy Stanley
What a perfect quote! There are so many levels of truth wrapped in two simple sentences. In truth, the decision to forgive is one humans struggle with more times than not. Finding peace in the trial by letting go of the hurt and anger to recognize each of us is undeserving of the grace Christ poured out in blood on the cross. In the shadow of the cross, our sins are covered, forgiven and blotted out.
Quotes like these take me back to Jesus words when the disciples asked him to teach them how to pray:
"Forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins against us." Luke 11:4
The shadow of the cross covers us, allowing us to be healed, to be freed and to be unburdened by thieves of joy like anger and unforgiveness. Who wants to carry that dead weight around, anyway?
Today, I am grateful for the shadow of the cross.
