Lessons in Resilience

Daily Gratitude Year 10 - Day 124: Today, I am grateful for lessons in resilience.

Most humans do not stand in line to sign up for trials that teach resilience. Most of us prefer to be comfortable. Right? Well... maybe... we do sign up for those lessons.

I think that a new baby teaches us resilience (or at least how to press on and through exhaustion). Toddlers and teens teach us patience in trouble. Aging parents, health issues and loved ones hurting keep us praying.

I love this verse that sums up so much of what it means to walk in faith:

"Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying." -Romans 12:12

In this world, there will be trials and troubles. We get to choose our response. We can choose to rejoice. We can choose to be confident. We can choose to be patient. We can be fervent, persistent and undeterred in our prayers.

We weren't put here to find happiness. We were placed here to find Him.

We can be grateful for the broken, twisted and deeply potholed roads that lead us back to the foot of the cross.

Today, I am grateful for lessons in resilience.
