Daily Gratitude Year 9 - Day 274: Today, I am grateful for the "all things".
"And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose." -Romans 8:28
This passage is quoted often. When quoting, the focus is often placed on the "for good" portion of the promise. Perhaps, it is good to have new eyes on old familiar verses. What happens when we move the emphasis to the "all things".
In life, the "all things" certainly includes the successes and celebrations. It, also, includes the grief, the heartbreak, the loss, the disappointments and the pain that comes with daily living in a fallen world. Many things are broken. In the messy, miserable moments... we have a Messiah who meets us there. Do we make room for him to sit beside us? Are we willing to lean into the luxury of His strength when ours fails.
Most of us don't look forward to the hard stuff with giddy anticipation. Yet, on the other side of the sorrow, we know the truth that our Immanuel is with us. God. With. Us. And the crazy thing is, it is in the deepest, darkest moments we absolutely know the reality of His truth.
"And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age." -Matthew 8:28
This hard thing will pass. It might be life changing, but it does not change how much He loves us.
"Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you." -James 4:8
Today, I am grateful for the "all things".
